If you have been playing Warcraft for a long time, you should know that Mage is a caster specialise in Burst Damage. You can find mage all over Azeroth. One thing mage focus on is magic. They learn magic that changes or creates.
Mages can use the magic to defeat their enemies or to strengthen the power of their allies.
Mage is undergoing changes too since Patch 3.0.8 is released. Among the changes include Profession gains:
Jewelcrafting: ᄇ spell power and -24 stamina (or -16 spirit) with rare gems. ჽ spell power and -30 stamina (-20 spirit) when/if epic gems appear.
You can use Prismatic gems to unlock your meta gem requirement, allowing you to skip the two blue/purple coloured gems.
Blacksmithing: ჲ spell power with rare gems socketed, ჺ spell power once/if epic gems get implemented.
Inscription ჱ spell power, ჷ spell power in the first 2 months when not Exalted with Sons of Hodir (daily grind)
Herbalism may offer something in the ჭ-40 spell power region via Fire Seeds if you can properly stack cooldowns.
Enchanting ჲ spell power, Leatherworking ჱ spell power, Alchemy ჱ spell power
Mining, Skinning, Tailoring, Engineering are currently not competitive options for Mage DPS.
